Empire, Michigan - BSRA Club President Jeremy Brown, along with club members Andrew Fritz and Steve Schilling, competed in the Great Lakes Relay; a 3 day, 272 mile cross-country relay race throughout Northern Michigan.

This is how it works: You have ten people to a team and three cars. Each team member takes turns running throughout the day while each car is responsible for taking the next runner to their respective leg. Each leg can vary in length, from 2.51 to 11.2 miles. There are anywhere from 17 to 20 legs per day; giving each runner approximately 2 races each day and a total of 6 for the weekend. The course? I rugged mix of trails, sandy logging roads, hills, stream and river crossings, runs along the beach, and a touch of of pavement.

The team of ten call themselves, "Screamin' Squirrels". In total, nearly 75 teams compete each year at the Great Lakes Relay. "The Screamin' Squirrels was formed by BSU alumni Megan Dana. I knew her through some friends and attracted many of the former Ball State cross and track guys to run. The tradition has carried on now and this is my 4th year here. I love every bit of it. I flew from Atlanta just to be here this weekend. It puts the fun back in racing," Fritz said. Former club member Alan Hemmelgarn is also a Screamin' Squirrel.
