Mission Statement
The purpose of the BSRA is to promote the sport of running on the campus of Ball State to people of all skill levels!
History
The BSRA was founded in October of 2003
under the guidance of Bryan Beightol, Mike Johnson, and faculty sponsor, Lambert
Deckers. The first meeting took place on October 20, 2003. About 20 members were
on hand to learn what the club could offer. Throughout the fall and early winter
the club continued to grow...
On December 6, 2003 the team had its first entry into an organized event. Bryan
Beightol, Chase and Natalie Christy, Chris Sexton, and Chris Thornberry
participated in the team event of the Jingle Bell Run for Arthritis in downtown
Indianapolis. The team finished a strong 2nd. The club continued to workout
(with new faces) up until the 500 Festival Mini-Marathon in May.
Meeting Location and Workouts (map)
We meet everyday in front of Irving Gym at 5:00pm. It is completely participatory and you may come and go as you like. Although we encourage you to come everyday.
Anybody and everybody can run with us. We have all levels of fitness and speed.
Most days are group runs where we just take it easy and talk about the days events. Conversations may be as follows:
Girls:
"Hey Christie, how are you doing?"
"Oh, I'm doing just fine. Did you see the cute guy hanging out at the student
center today?"
"Yeh, he is so dreamy!"
Boys:
"Dude."
"Dude."
"What?"
"Dude."
Workouts can include anything from a nice hard run (tempo, sub-thresh to threshold) to doing speed work on the track to playing hardcore ultimate Frisbee.
We run rain or shine no matter what. Cold weather, despite what your parents may say, doesn't freeze your lungs and it is impossible to get a cold from the cold weather. Also, our bodies are better adapted for heat dissipation than any other animal on this planet and it is completely feasible to run in very hot weather once acclimated. In other words, we were born to run.
